Dr. Ruiz is an Orange County native who earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. Following veterinary school, he completed a small animal rotating internship at a private specialty hospital in Irvine, California. He then pursued advanced specialty training at the University of Illinois, where he completed a Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency and earned a Master of Science degree in 2024. After completing his Small Animal Internal Medicine residency, Dr. Ruiz was accepted into a two-year Nutrition Residency. He is Board-Certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine, and is working towards getting Board-Certified in Nutrition.

Dr. Ruiz has a special interest in gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity and weight management, respiratory diseases, and immune-mediated diseases. He is particularly passionate about incorporating evidence-based nutritional therapy into the management of complex medical conditions, recognizing nutrition as a critical component of comprehensive patient care.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Ruiz enjoys spending time with his wife, whether exploring Disneyland, biking along the Orange County coastline, or relaxing at home watching movies and playing video games. He also loves spending time with his furry family, which includes two cats—one adopted in Australia and the other in St. Kitts and Nevis—and a beloved dog.
