Our Internal Medicine Service is dedicated to helping dogs and cats with complex or chronic
medical conditions receive the specialized care they need. The service is led by our Board-
Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Jose De Jesus Ruiz Romero, who has
also completed residency training in Nutrition.
Conditions We Commonly Evaluate and Treat
We provide advanced evaluation and medical management for a wide range of diseases, including, but not limited to:
- Endocrine diseases (ie Diabetes, Cushing’s disease, Addison’s disease, thyroid disorders)
- Gallbladder and liver diseases
- Gastrointestinal diseases
- Immune-mediated diseases (ie IMHA, IMPA, ITP)
- Kidney diseases
- Lower urinary tract diseases
- Metabolic (ie high blood triglyceride levels, high blood calcium levels)
- Respiratory diseases
Advanced Diagnostic & Treatment Services
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Advanced laboratory testing
- Bone marrow aspirate and biopsy
- CT scan
- Endoscopy (bronchoscopy, cystoscopy, gastroduodenoscopy, rhinoscopy)
- Fluid and tissue sampling – minimally invasive
- Placement of feeding tubes (esophagostomy tube)
- Transfusions (blood and plasma)
